SUMMARY:Public Hearing for the FY24 HUD PRO Housing Grant
DESCRIPTION:The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) announces the opening of a Public Comment period and Public Hearing as part of its application for the FY24 HUD Pathways to Removing Obstacles (PRO) Housing Grant. ARC seeks public comment from our member jurisdictions’ leadership\, housing stakeholders\, community members\, and other interested parties. \nThis is a competitive grant that will allocate funds to assist\, through planning and technical assistance\, in affordable housing production and preservation. \nARC seeks grant funding to allocate to cities and counties in the 11-county Atlanta region who have demonstrated progress and commitment to overcoming local housing barriers primarily by having enacted improved laws and regulations. Grant funding will support increasing housing production and lowering housing costs over the long term. \nARC’s grant proposal seeks to address four main barriers to creating new and preserving existing affordable housing:\n1. Lack of adequate and flexible funding at the municipal and county level for land and housing\,\n2. Need to identify and activate vacant\, city or county-owned school\, faith-based\, and other types of land\, to establish and expand local land banks to acquire\, hold\, and transfer land for community benefit\, and to activate targeted properties for affordable housing\,\n3. Need to build upon existing\, and create new community land trust and shared-equity partnerships and models for permanent affordability to address the loss of affordable units and provide community control over housing need\, and\n4. Need for additional regional research\, resource development\, and education to implement housing solutions regionally and beyond.
