Understanding & Appealing Your Property Tax Assessment
June 29, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
FreeFulton County property owners will soon receive their 2020 property value assessment statements. While the statement includes an estimate of taxes due later this year, the assessment itself is not a bill that must be paid now. The statement’s mailing date, however, does trigger a 45-day window of time during which you have the right to appeal your assessment if you feel it’s wrong or unfair. If you have concerns about your 2020 assessment and want to appeal, you must file your appeal no later than the deadline date (determined by actual statement mailing date). For example, if the notices are sent on June 15 then appeal will need to be filed on or before July 30.
The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership, Atlanta Legal Aid Society and Grove Park Foundation are partnering to help guide property owners in BeltLine neighborhoods through the appeal process. This free virtual information session is designed to help you understand your property tax statement and the options available if you want to appeal. For those who decide to appeal their assessment and would like assistance, we will be scheduling virtual individual consultations throughout July designed to get you the help you need. If you would like to schedule a virtual consultation, please fill out the form you’ll find here.
The 2020 Home Empowerment workshop series is sponsored by Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Annie E. Casey Foundation.
